Hot stone therapy is a massage process using hot stones: an ancient art, already used in the past, especially by indian ayurvedic medicine. The stones are always heated and the ideal heating temperature is around 60?-70?C. Heating can be by bain-marie in hot water, or dry. During the treatment, when the stones cool down, they must be replaced.
The hot stone massage promotes relaxation, induces vasodilatation, improves circulation, promotes the elimination of toxins and generates a feeling of warmth that in cold periods is a real panacea for the body and mood. The hot stone massage technique usually uses lava and basaltic stones, as they retain heat for longer.
